What can you expect?
Shortly after the application of the peeling agent, most people experience a transient stinging sensation. This sensation may be mild or intense. Each patient is different and will have a unique experience. The use of a small fan during the treatment helps some patients feel more comfortable. The procedure may be mildly to moderately uncomfortable for most patients, but is rarely painful. After the peel, the patient may experience mild to moderate erythema and edema for 6 to 24 hours post peel. Mild erythema may persist until healing is complete. Healing may take up to 7 days with mild to moderate flaking and/or peeling of the treated areas. It may be necessary to schedule a series of treatments for the patient to see the maximum benefit from this type of resurfacing. Generally, a single treatment will not provide the results the patient is expecting to see.

What kind of complications can be expected?
Complications from superficial peeling agents are rare. The most common side effects of peeling agents may include persistent erythema, irritation and increased sensitivity. Less common is hyperpigmentation. These side effects are usually transient. It is imperative that patients follow the prescribed at-home care regimen. This will minimize the potential risk of infection and maximize the benefits of the procedure.

What products should be used post-peel?
To maximize the benefit of the chemical peel (or series of peels) it is important to apply a solution that nourishes and hydrates the skin. It is most critical for 7 to 10 days immediately following the peel. Vitamin Infusion Serum or Vitamin Infusion Lotion are perfect for post peel application. These products will hydrate and nourish the skin with ingredients such as pure aloe vera, Vitamins A, B Complex and E, OPC (grape seed extract), Lutein (carrot seed extract) and emu oil. Of course, a broad-spectrum sunscreen is also required. We recommend the Clear Sunblock SPF 50.

Regular at-home use of quality maintenance products will extend the benefit period of the resurfacing procedures of your clients. SkinTherapeutic® offers a complete line of products.
